Driving is the UK's biggest killer of young people 

Safe drivers are made, not born. DSA statistics show that those that pass the driving test have had an average of 52 hours of professional training, with an extra 22 hours private practice.

Drivers under 25 have an exceptionally high risk of being killed or seriously injured (KSI) in crashes due to inexperience, inadequate driving practice, risk-taking, immaturity and poor judgement.

• Each year, 50,000 17 year olds pass their test with less than 6 months driving experience
  
  
• 20% of all serious road accidents involve newly qualified drivers
  
  
• 300 people are killed each year by young drivers
  
  
• 16% more drivers under 19 are killed each year than 15 years ago
  
  
• 20% of new drivers have a crash in their first year of driving - only 1% have a crash whilst learning to drive
  
  
• Driving with a passenger increases the chance of a young driver being involved in a fatality by 50%
  
  
• Each day 23 people under the age of 25 are killed or seriously injured in vehicles
  
  
• 50% of accidents involving young males take place at night.
  
  
• Young drivers takes their eyes off the road up to 40% of the time
  
  
• Young drivers respond to situations an average of 2 seconds slower than experienced drivers
  
  
• Driving examiners have to intervene on safety grounds on 10% of all driving tests

29,000 people tried to become DSA Approved Driving Instructors last year but only 4,000 qualified. At the UK's largest driving school, almost half their instructors are trainees and display a pink trainee licence on the windscreen. ADI licences are green.
